The use of a Building Network Operator (BNO) is steadily increasing for buildings of multi occupancy. This is where the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) provides a single supply to the intake cut out position of a building or site and then a BNO is responsible for the onward distribution and metering to the various customer's metering installations.
In short this allows the individual occupants to be set up with their own MPAN and billing meter, enabling them to make direct arrangements for their electricity supply contract. This is now common practice with new sites in some DNO areas but is also happening in some cases as a conversion option, taking a building from landlord supply throughout to a BNO.
